For America!

Yesterday was the final day of voting.  Close to 120 million americans came voted in the election.  120 million people motivated to action to make things better! 120 million came together, with different beliefs, for one cause.  To vote!  Pregnant women stood in line and voted in labor.  Storm victims searched for hours to find their polling place to stand in a cold tent lit with flashlights.  People stood in line for hours in tropical heat and heavy rain.  People delt with frustrations of organization, logistics, and technical difficulties.

For one night we watched as the 120 million votes were counted for one purpose.  To see the results.  Yes, there are differences of opinion and expectation but we were unitedly holding our breath to see who was elected.

I agree with Mitt Romney, this is a great country and hope that God blesses it.  I agree with him that we need to be united going forward.  I agree with Obama, he said we need to be united to keep moving forward.  I would like to modify Obama's saying "you did that" to "we did that".  We the people were united.

Regardless of party and belief that is a staggering number. 120 million people motivated for a cause!
We face many needs in the world and many more will become prevelant in the coming months. No more than ever we need to get together.  It is beyond crucial!  We are going to face a hard road and we need to unite to get through it and make it better if we can.

What can we do?  We need to do four things:

1) recognize the need for compromise and do it.  No matter our belief this needs to be done.  Our founding fathers fough the evil of slavery only to agree to allow it to continue for a period of time.  They did this knowing the evil, effects and potential impacts.  They knew there was no progress forward without this compromise.  Our founding fathers fought equal representation vs. population and knew it couldnt continue till there was a compromise.  Here we are again, divided politically with what we think works.  We need to agree to give up what we want for the greater good.  Compromise.

2) Be informed.  We cannot be effective in knowing what is happening if we arent properly informed.  We need to research and understand beyond party, race, personal belief what bills are coming through, what the issue is and we need to see compromise.

3) Be innovative.  We have to innovate.  The ways we are doing things now are divided and will not work to get us out of this situation.  We need to get out of the box that is ourselves and think of others and a new path forward.

4) Write elected officials.  Regardless of party we need to write them and make sure they know they are accountable to us and that they are also doing these 4 things.  We need to make sure that when we write them we arent doing it to divide, but to promote compromise.  No one sided logic or arguments will work anymore.

President Obama is right "Forward" is the direction we need to go.  Let's grit our teeth bear the difficulties and compromise.  Not for votes, not for the future of a political party or the possibility of winning a future office or election.  For US, prosperity, for posterity, for America and for freedom.
