My wife went to get my daughter from the bus today and he was upset. She said that we treat her like a baby and that she is old enough to walk home by herself. Granted it is only up a short hill and between some apartments in a decent area.
To my BABY girl (yes thats right you are my baby girl still). You wont understand this and perhaps one day you will read this and know what we mean.
It isnt you we dont trust! We dont trust everyone else. You never know who would try to hurt or take you away and something terrible would happen. It happens even in seemingly decent areas. We do it to ensure your safety #1. #2 we do it so we can greet you right away after school. Get a few minutes of one-on-one time to ask how your day was and find out what you did at school! Interaction with mom/dad. It shows our love and concern for you. It shows our interest in the things that you do.
We love and trust you! We are very proud of you! I will admit a small part of me doesnt want to let you do it because of "Peter Pan Snydrome (PPS)". Yes we dont want you to grow up sometimes. But I promise I wont let my PPS issues prevent you from doing things.

I remember being a kid and thinking the same thing and now that I have a baby I completely understand! Unfortunately I don't think anyone fully understands until they are a parent themselves. But good job not giving in and just letting her do it on her own. You are great parents!
