Rexburg, Idaho Temple Open House

We went Thursday up to Rexburg Idaho for the temple open house. As many of you know K and I went to school there and meet there. Jenalee was also born there. I will just stop myself short and say I love that place. If I could pick three places to live they would be 1) connecticut 2) rexburg 3) Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Anyway, we went up to the temple dedication. I started with a video explaining about the pioneers settling the Rexburg area and the prohesy and vision that there would be homes, colleges, universities, business and even temples in the valley.

Temples date back to Old Testament times. They were a place of communion and higher learning from and with God. It was also the place that people took their animals for sacrifice as well symbolizing the sacrifice of the Savior. Temples today are they same. The are places away from the world, designed with simplicity and elegance and with the spirit in order to allow us to feel the spirit and commune and learn with God.

The Rexburg (The Burg) Temple sits on the hill just just southeast of the BYU-Idaho campus. It definately stands out from the highway. It is a small but tall temple. There are four flights of stairs. Some temples like the Mesa, AZ; Cardston Alberta and Idaho Falls, ID all progress with each part of your learning separated by stairs signifining higher learning each time. Well you can get this from the Burg temple too.

The wood is from South Africa and it actually has a toxic agent in it. This kept it free from damage from bugs becuase the bugs would die if it penatrated the surface. It is like cherry wood with a much lighter lusts like oak. It was all glued together carefully so no nails would penatrate it or cause toxic damage to workers.

The last room is a place to commune with God and think about your relationship with him and what you have learned in the temple. There is a huge chandelier that is 8,000 crystals straight from Austria and two smaller ones with 4,000 on each side of that. The lights on the wall are also the same design with 400 crystals each on them. It is by far my favorite chandelier in all the temples I have seem. It has comfy furniture of oak and light brown and gree colors which suits me just fine.

So all and all because of my history with the town and the beauty of the Temple it my favorite.

Jenalee was screaming and waving her hands because she was so excited to go into it. She always points out church buildings and temples to us when we drive anywhere so she loved it.

We got to go into the sealing room and it brought back a lot of memories of my sealing and was a great experience to see the mirrors and the place where K and I got sealed. I cant believe it has been 4 years.

It is sad that there are actually pictures on You Tube of the Temple. People either have no ethics, morals, repect or dont care for instructions because you arent suppose to have video cameras or any kind of camera for that matter in there. People have a little more respect.
