Memorial Day Today

I have a lot of fond memories of gathering with the family to take flowers to gravestones and lots of yummy food.  This year being away from it and not being able to go is somewhat of a downer for me.  I did however get to get up at 6:45 am and head over to the church to help set up, prepare and cook for about 300 people.  Boy am I glad for the men and women on the committees who spearheaded that activity cus it would have been WAY to much for me and it was a great job!  The breakfast was good, though I still lament not being able to have my grandmothers potato salad!  Thank goodness for my cousins who preserved the recipe in a book!

Now I am just going to let the kids play around while I clean house.  But as I do that thoughts of the soldiers who died for us fighting in all the wars touch my heart!  Brave men and women who give up land, family, time, life and limb to protect us and bring peace and freedom.  I have family members who have and are serving in on branch or the other and I am grateful to them.  It isnt an easy choice or life!
