Chinatown Excursion

We took a drive into the city and visited Chinatown. It is the largest one of all the cities and there are quite a few oriental/asians in the area. Guess that makes sense since it is right across the Pacific. Since it is the Chinese New Year we thought that it would be fun to see. We didnt see any dragon dancers there but that probably will happen at the closing of the holiday in Feburary.
We walked around the different shops. It was a lot like a street fair with so many different shops. It is pretty crowded down there but at lot of fun. It started in a square where people where playing Chinese games like majhong. Baby J kept chasing the birds around the square. I saw one of these hats and I have always wanted one but I wouldnt wear it much so i settled for a picture with one on what do you thing (top left).
We walked through shops looking a shirts, chinese silk clothes and pajamas. We got a set for the kids for pretty cheap. J'alee needed to use the bathroom and it was "only for customer" it said. So we stopped at a sushi place. They had a chef in the middle of a counter that had tug boats going around it with plates of sushi. You just took off what you wanted and each style of plate had a price to it. The sushi was good and it was a fun place.
We got to stop at a fortune cookie company and see how they made fortune cookies. The kids were a big hit down there espeically Baby J. There was a nice lady that held his hand and talked all about him for a few minutes. I held his other hand at the same time and just was laughing and smiling.
On the street there was a asian man that was playing an instrument and he was quite good. Im not sure if the instrument is from China or Japan but it is long and ends like a ball at the bottom and has strings played with a bow. He was playing for money on the street. I gave him the rest of the change I had and took his picture. We saw him again later and he waved at us. It was fantastic.
After we were done we drove down past fishermans wharf and up some hills and back around to see some of san francisco. Lots of hills and very close houses that brought back memories of my trips for chemo. Then we drove over the bay bridge and down back to home. That brought more memories too. I am glad that my chemo is over and I know that it was blessings from Heavenly Father that I am alive today. See all the photos here they are mingled with pictures of J'alee's birthday.

When I was 7 and we lived in California I got diagnosed with cancer. I used to go to San Francisco for chemotherapy and we would drive in over the bay bridge there all the time. Im obviously in remission for many years now but that's the story.
