3G Networks

I want to give people the low down on 3G networks. I am studying this kind of stuff in my master degree. Let me break it down to for you easy.

All voice calls and data are sent of a network at a speed. In this case we are talking about 3G. Not everything goes at this speed for various reasons, trouble with signals, service, lots of people on at the same time, etc. If you get the service expecting to have 3G all the time dont get it. There is a New Jersey man suing Apple and AT&T because he doesnt get 3G all the time. A cable company advertises 12mbps but you dont always get that speed and everyone knows it. Not sure why he is suing this when it is common knowledge.

Next is you probably arent getting true 3G. See to have 3G requires a lot of upgrades of software and equipment including signal towers and things like that. That is quite expensive and there isnt a lot of room to do that in metro areas. So 2.5G was developed. Basically gives you the same benefits of 3G with just software upgrades. 3G networks only truly exists outside of the U.S.

This is strictly terms of the network not of the Apple 3G phone capabilities. That stuff I havent learned about yet.

Blake, You're too smart. Really to most of us out there the question is not about 3G, the question is, "Does my phone work or not?" As long as we get a working phone, we're happy!
But that was interesting knowledge to learn. Thanks.
